Money Saving Tips: Fashion

Hi Everyone!
I was inspired to do this post because I am currently a high school student, which means I don't have a lot of spare money to always buy high priced fashion items, so here are my tips to be able to look great without spending all your money!

1. Check the sale rack! Especially for expensive stores, you can find great steals in the clearance and sale areas!

2. If you are on a budget, do not spend a lot of money on trends. They do not stay "in" for a long time and you may not get your money's worth on them. Try places like H&M or Forever 21 in order to find nicely priced and cute trendy items.

3. Buy some basics! A white tee, a leather jacket, a denim jacket, and a good pair of dark wash jeans are amazing staples to any closet, and investing in one of each of these items leaves you with an infinite number of outfit combinations you can do!

4. I suggest splurging on accessories as opposed to clothing items 90% of the time. Why? Accessories  can be re-worn and re-worn with different outfits, and they are usually very versatile. Shoes are also usually a very good investment, as they can be worn more as opposed to something like an expensive shirt.

5. Calculate your cost per wearing. Take an item, and tell yourself honestly how many times you are going to wear that item. Then divide the price of the item by the number of times you are going to wear it in maybe a year, perhaps. Like if you are going to wear a $100 dress only once, that is $50 per wear. But, if you are going to wear a $100 dollar pair of shoes 50 times, you are getting a much better deal here. You don't have to do this for every item, just the few things that you are hesitant about.

6. If you are hesitant about buying an item, ask the cashier to place it on hold while you scour the mall for other things. Then come back later to decide whether or not to buy it. This will save you from those return trips and instinctive buys.

7. Check the tag of those "weird" fabrics of things like blazers, blouses, and some skirts. If the cleaning label says "Dry Clean Only", ask yourself whether you will take good care of the item. If you are not, it is probably not worth the buy if it's going to either rarely get washed or ruined.

8. Figure out your shopping style. Do you like shopping alone or with friends? I personally like shopping with friends as they always give their honest opinion about whether or not a thing looks good on.

9. If you are eyeing a splurge, a suggest maybe giving the idea a week or two to sink in. Often after that week, that splurge item doesn't look so worth splurging on anymore. If it does still look as enticing as ever, go for it!

10. Contrary to tip #1, check out the sale section, but do not buy something simply because it is a good deal.  If you buy a lot of things that you will barely wear just because the price is right, all those "cheap" items become not so cheap anymore. Those small numbers add up, and sooner or later if you hadn't bought things that were just "a good deal" and not because you genuinely liked them, you could have had a good chunk of money to buy something high end that you really liked.

11. Expand your shopping circle. Check out new stores, even the pricey ones, as many have great deals and sales going on all the time.

12. Finally, do NOT buy stuff because everyone else has it or if it is just a trend. Spend money on things you genuinely like, not because everyone else likes it, because it is these items that you will wear the most.

I hope you liked these tips and keep an eye out for Part 2 (Beauty)!
